I'm so glad you enjoy the blog, thank you! What's that saying…. once burned twice shy. Not all systems work out and sometimes we have to deal with the fall out of that. I have changed my CRM and project management system twice since Dec2010. Not that the systems weren't good, but I outgrew them or something better came along. Systems evolve and that's a good thing.

There will definitely be more reviews of systems in the future not only that I use but that clients use as well.

Alycia, Love your blog - I feel as though you are talking straight to me!
As a small business owner I know I need systems, on my To-Do List is to start researching appropriate systems for our business. However I have lost confidence after previously trying to implement a new system which turned out not what we wanted - a disaster - a costly mistake all round; financially, time, emotion and stress.
So I appreciate your appraisal of systems you use/come across - word of mouth is best reseach tool.

Thanks Nerida. Evernote has so many capabilities, a lot that I don't even use and I find it fascinating reading the case studies on their blog on the different ways that people use it. It's very powerful, it's just a matter of deciding how you will use it. :)

Thanks Louise! I'm am very grateful for your Teamwork recommendation, it's just super! I've found it super helpful in keeping up to date with where my team are at. Enjoy researching the other programs. I might have to make this post a regular thing as I'm always coming across great systems to work with.

Great post Alycia. Glad to see that you like using TeamworkPM! I've been using it for about 6 months now and can't work without it - it's the first thing I turn on in the morning even before checking emails! I review it each Sunday night before the week begins and add the to-do's to my diary (yep still use a paper diary!). I love ticking off the to-do's in TeamworkPM and seeing the list diminish! Your other suggestions are useful too - will investigate! Thanks

LOL ... and so true. I argued and wrestled with my CRM for SOOOOOOO long ... for all of the reasons you described ... and then one day I realised I wasn't using it AT ALL anymore ... and my system ... well it wasn't a system anymore.

My new marriage to my new CRM system (which happens to be your recommended system of the week, Highrise) is awesome ... so in love :-)

Wise words young lady.

Personally, I've always resisted multitasking as much as possible. While it's impossible to eliminate it entirely, I always allocate at least one full day for creative work, without interruptions. It's incredible how much more is possible when you commit to doing things that way.

Now if I could just eliminate all meetings too, things would work even better.

This is top advice, Alycia. For me, Monday is metrics day, where I spend an hour every Monday reviewing key numbers, goals and the overall plan. It's just a habit that works for me.

Love this article. Have you thought about having a Virtual Assistant 'follow up with prospects, joint venture partners, touch base briefly with clients, network with prospects and write proposals'? This would give even more TIME! If you've got the bookkeeper in why not have the VA 'out' doing this stuff for you too. Once you find a VA you can trust to do those things listed, life becomes so much simpler. I agree days instead of hours is a good way to go to organising your week.
